Wharf Rat Rally 2010

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=497453&id=598570593&l=d307594ab4

What a time we had! NoN Hurricane Earl did cut our trip short but we made the best of the time we had.
Riding the old roads through Nova Scotias finest cottage country, through the Annapolis Valley, all the way to Digby for the best Labour Day weekend a Biker could have. Well, the boyz rode their bikes, I drove the car. It was really windy on the way down, but the roads for the most part were awesome.

My Journey with Jack!

Jack! how I got him
Jack! is my Motorcycle. He is a 1979 Yamaha XS400. He was THE bike back in the day. Most Torque in his class. To my knowledge Jack! has had only 2 other owners, the chick I bought him from had him for 15 yrs, and named him Jack! She bought him in Ontario in the 90's. Jessica said, he was cheaper than a plane ticket home to Nova Scotia. She drove him back and forth twice and down to Vermont once. She sold him to me for $600 bucks. He needed air in the tires, a new battery and fresh gas only. He fired up on the the second kick.
I was in love immediatly, I cried at the sound of his motor, as I hear it for the first time. I was in my glory, overwhelmed by fantasies of me riding my bike everywhere and back, I just couldn't believe something so amazing, so CHEAP fired up and would be ready to ride after a lil elbow grease was applied, Oh and ofcourse a make over.
I have had Jack! for 2 riding seasons. He has his issues, but what 31 yr old bike doesn't. He hates traffic, but loves long slow trips, his comfortable speed is 60km/h, but has reached speeds as high as 110km/h; going downhill, but it still counts. Last summer I put 1500kms on it, and I am currently pushing 1200 for this year already. I ride from when the snow melts to when it flies and stays.
Enjoy my journey with Jack!

The hoop dance workout with HoopGirl

Looking radiant on the cover of her workout DVD HoopGirl is as inspiring as she is energetic and beautiful. Her energy is infectious. The hour long dance party is challenging, but with practice I know I will have more graceful hooping abilities in no time. The workout includes a warm up, step tutorial, gradually showing you step and speeding up. In the end she has you steping in triple time using every part of your body, sharing your energy with the room and the world, making you liquid, and making you sweat. But the movement is so hypnotique that you don't ever realize how much your are using your muscles and that an hour has past and its time for a nice cool down. Breathing, getting your heartrate under control, relaxing your muscles and then some stretching. A complete, fun, challenging work out, one hour, and in my living room, excercise doesn't get much better than this.
Check your local library for a copy, I borrowed this copy yesterday, have it for a week.
Happy Hooping

Hooping with Monique: Level 2

Now that Christmas is over its time to get my body back to where I was in November. 10lbs lighter and 2 Inches of my waist line. God bless the holidays......

We started hooping again on January 3rd. I am really on to this blog stuff. lol.
Level 2 so far has been; Hooping in your Opposite direction always, Hanging and Hooping (see britains got talent hula hoopers on youtube), Foot hooping adding the shoulder stand. Moving the hoop from the floor to your waist and passing the hoop from one elbow to another. Very tricky stuff, I had a dream last night I went to wear a skirt to work and I looked down at my legs, they were so bruised from practicing tricks that I put pants on instead. My feet are bruised and right above my knee cap is tender, and I am suprised I haven't gotten a black eye yet.

All in all fun times. I went to a local video shoot for Classifieds "Oh Canada", with my hoops hoping to score a cameo, didn't happen sadly.

And so my life long quest for fame continues.............

Tinsel and Tassels

I had the time of my life last night!
I remeber the first time I heard the term bourlesque in Halifax. I must be at least 6yrs ago now, I was Belly dancing with Genies of the Mist, instructor Bernadette Dawson. Monique Ryan was in the same troupe as me, she is now my Hula Fitness instructor, as well she (Kitty LeCoque) and The Divine Miss C, of Pink Velvet Bourlesque put on last nights Tinsel and Tassels workshop.
We started by taking attendance and glueing pasties to our nipples, or pinning them to your shirt in the right location, I can say this was my first pasty experience. It was even more awesome than I ever imagined (and I have thought of this moment many of times). Breasts are fantastic things, they amaze me, why not put tassels on 'em. Bourlesque names we next up. I already have my bourlesque name, Mistress Kitten DeVille, the others picked from two envelopes first and last. We began by learning a Christmas Themed Go-Go Dance choreographed by Monique for the class to Sock It To Me by Santa-Bob Seger. It seemed as though Monique, I mean Kitty LeCoque was as excited as us for the evening. She even made a chart, color cordinated flow chart. On the left the break down of the song, marking chorus in hot pink, the guitar solo and a few other points. On the right, the moves color cordinated with the song breakdown. She put a lot of thought into it, and it worked we all learned a full Go-Go routine, approx 2.50mins and how to twirl tassels in under 2hours.
She taught us the moves, how to do them first, then she showed us what we were to do with out music, always refering to the handy chart. Next came running through all the steps a few times then we did it to music a few times. It was fun, easy and a fantastic work out. We were all sweating and smiling.
We took a break and then we got an introduction to the history of bourlesque and why she loves it by The Devine Miss C. Then it was shirts off. I thought the Go-Go was going to be the hard part. We learned, bouncing with arms down to make 'em spin outside, and with the arms to make 'em spin to the inside. punching the floor to make 'em go one at a time and a few other trade secrets.
Over all it was the best night I have had in a very long time.

Thank you Ladies!!

Hooping with Jenn

I hoop pretty much every day, if only for 1 or 2 songs, and always alone. Tonight I knew it was time to introduce my friend Jenn to the Joys of Hooping. So I turned on my Hooping Fever Dance Mix and gave her a demo. I blew her mind, which is awesome cause I only picked up a Hoop 7 weeks ago!
She wanted to try every thing at least once, I must say she did great! we hooped for 2 hours none stop, taking turns. I was drenched in sweat, she said she was too, but she didn't show it.I think she was just trying to fit in. LOL
We had a blast and I can't wait till next time, she said she may have some new recruits next time. may need a bigger space.
Thanks for the Hoop date Jenn.

New Adventure

So, winter is coming. It's sucky to think about but there ain't much can be done about it. Just gotta start mentally preparing for the dark and cold that comes with winter, and don't even get me started on the weather!!

Every winter I seem to get into a funk, gain 10lbs and then come spring, when I snap outta the funk, I am stuck with 10lbs to get rid of. Last year I tried going to the gym, to get exercise, be social and to keep my energy levels up. It seemed like every 2 weeks I was sick with something new. My membership was only 6 months, Nov. to May. The last month and Dec. were both write offs. So really the membership was four months, I did see minimal results, but my heart wasn't in it. I didn't find it fun.

Years ago I beat the winter blues with belly dancing, I danced with the same troupe for several years, performing in the cities Fringe festival a few times at the Multi Cultural festival. I missed having fun while exercising. Lucky for me I stayed in touch with some girls from my belly dance troupe over the years and Monique now teaches her own variety of dance and fitness. This means she teaches Hula Hoop Fitness, Tricks and makes Hoops!

Today I just had my 7th class out of 12 with her, 1 hour every week. We have our own hoops to practice with. I drip sweat during every class, and hoop at least 5 hours a week at home. I love it, its fun and effective, and addictive. I now spend my spare time googling hoop dance and checking out new moves, kind of the same way my man and his buddies watch skate and snow board videos.

Which brings me to this blog, I will post a play list of my fav songs to hoop too, as well as videos I find on the web.

I HOOP you enjoy!!

My name is Stacey, Word!
